Does tranexamic acid work for melasma?
It does, and it works on the part of melasma that other brighteners do not touch. Tranexamic acid interferes with the signaling between skin cells and pigment cells, and it acts on the vascular component underneath. It is one of the more genuinely interesting additions to melasma treatment in recent years. The Calecim Professional Pigment Solution builds outward from it.
Tranexamic acid and niacinamide cover the signal. Niacinamide also limits pigment transfer into the surrounding skin and calms the inflammation feeding the whole process, which is why the two are paired so often.
Alpha-arbutin, arbutin and 4-butylresorcinol cover the enzyme. Three tyrosinase inhibitors at moderate strengths rather than one at a high one, which is the whole design philosophy here and the reason it stays tolerable over months.
Sodium ascorbyl phosphate and ascorbyl palmitate are stable vitamin C derivatives working on pigment already deposited. Gentler than ascorbic acid and slower, which suits a condition where irritation is itself a trigger.
Glutathione and green tea extract handle oxidative stress, and PTT-6 with the structural proteins keeps the barrier supported while all of the above is happening.
Four pathways in one bottle is the argument for this formula. It is also why it belongs on skin that is calm rather than skin that is struggling.
